Day of Older Persons in Alberta

On October 1, Day of Older Persons in Alberta, we celebrate the rich and diverse history of older adults in Alberta. On October 1, we formally recognize and acknowledge older Albertans and their contributions to their communities, raise awareness about seniors’ interests and concerns, and address misconceptions about older persons and aging.
The United Nations introduced the International Day of Older Persons in 1990 as a way to bring awareness and attention to seniors. Since then, it has been a catalyst for people coming together to overcome misconceptions against seniors and has ushered in new policies that benefit seniors across the world. Day of Older Persons in Alberta and the International Day of Older Persons are celebrated across the province by many individuals and organizations.
