From Our Executive Director – June 17, 2022

We’ve reached the end of a very soggy week here in Red Deer, I hope that you have all managed to stay dry for the most part!

While we were all still recovering from the events and the excitement of Seniors’ Week, we managed through another very busy week which included a lot of really delicious food – thank you as always to our amazing kitchen team for keeping us well fed – and hosting some special guests! As you will see in upcoming pages, we hosted an event on Wednesday, June 15 to bring awareness to World Elder Abuse Day where Mayor Ken Johnston gave an excellent speech, Board Chair Linda Liptak did her best to convince him to become a volunteer and Theresa’s delicious hot lunch had him committing to joining us for more meals! We will be sure to include invitations to the entire Council team for our various events and activities. In fact – Councillor Dianne Wyntjes even signed up as a member on Wednesday so not only were we able to bring awareness to such an important issue, we were able to highlight the great work that we do here at the Golden Circle; a win-win situation indeed!

While my mind is on food, which is often if I’m being honest, I have a couple of kitchen updates to share. Supply chain issues have impacted us recently and we have had to temporarily remove Chicken Cordon Bleu from the frozen meal menu. We will update you as soon as that is back to normal. Also – based on some feedback received Theresa and I have been exploring menu options and ideas and we are soon going to be offering vegetarian options as well! We love to hear feedback from you, our members, about what you like and don’t like as much, and what kinds of things you hope to see on the menu or for lunches so please do not hesitate to bring your ideas forward because we are listening! Please share your ideas with Theresa or with me directly or send them to our general mailbox [email protected]

Lastly, I have received a few complaints at the last couple of ticketed events from people wanting to come into the building prior to the doors opening for events that I wanted to ensure were addressed. I understand that all are eager and excited to get in and get a good spot, but I need to reiterate that if the doors are scheduled to open at a specific time, that is when they will be opened. We simply do not have the space to have dozens of people milling in the lobby or the hallway and oftentimes staff and event volunteers are still getting set up and ready prior to those start. I know that there are technically no provincial restrictions anymore from a Covid-standpoint, but it is very important to me and to our entire team that we are doing all we can to keep everyone comfortable and safe and I thank you for your understanding.

As always, please do not hesitate to share your thoughts, ideas, feedback or concerns with me, I truly value and welcome your input.

Have a wonderful weekend, Golden Circle Community.
