Monica Morrison’s Retirement – The Board of Directors
The Golden Circle’s Board of Directors, staff, and membership would like to congratulate Monica Morrison, Executive Director, on her retirement.
Monica has worked with seniors for 35 years and her belief has always been that they deserve an excellent quality of life. Her passion, energy, commitment, and forward thinking has played an active role in the way the Golden Circle has adapted to the changing needs of our membership and become the vibrant hub it is today. She has created awareness for the work we do by collaborating with other organizations in and around Central Alberta and has identified and found solutions for seniors’ issues and service gaps by bringing them forward in the community and to the government.
Monica was President and Vice President of the Alberta Association of Senior Centres, Treasurer for the Alberta Elder Abuse Awareness Council, and part of the Central Alberta Poverty Reduction Alliance. After retirement, she will continue to be involved with the Healthy Aging Alberta Community Leadership Council and the Provincial Social Prescribing initiative.
I extend our deepest gratitude to Monica for her leadership during the past 10 years and thank her for her contributions, and memorable moments, which include:
– growing the membership, social events, and health and wellness programs,
– extending the basket of services offered through the Outreach Department,
– leading us in dance during the ‘Happy Movement’ inspired by Pharrell Williams,
– receiving the Red Deer Women of Excellence in the fitness, recreation, and exercise category for her work with seniors at the Bowden Petitionary,
– shaving her head and raising over $14,000 for the Golden Circle.
On behalf of all of us at the Golden Circle, I wish her a long and happy retirement.
– Linda Shepherd,

What is Medication Non-Adherence?
Medication non-adherence is when a patient doesn’t take a medication, either willfully or inadvertently, as prescribed by their healthcare provider. Studies have shown that 50% of Canadians do not take their prescription medications exactly as prescribed. The reasons for this vary from a lack of information to being afraid to take medication or believing it doesn’t work, to an inability to follow instructions that may be too complex. Each year, medication non-adherence results in many hospital admissions. Your pharmacist can help provide you with the information you need to make the right decisions about when and how to take your medications.
