Red Deer Let’s Get Active Together!

We’re excited to announce that the Golden Circle Senior Resource Centre and the city of Red Deer will be participating in the 3rd annual ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge from June 1 – June 30, as we strive to be named Canada’s “Most Active Community”.

Join us on Wednesday, June 1, at the Circle for an informative presentation by Denise Fredeen, Health Promotion Facilitator – Move Your Mood Coordinator Community Addiction & Mental Health with Alberta Health Services at 10:00 am, followed by an outdoor game of Bean Bag Baseball! The ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge is helping strengthen communities through physical activity and sport because everything gets better when you get active. ParticipACTION is awarding a $100,000 prize to the community that rallies the most participants and accumulates the most active minutes during the challenge. Individual participants can also win prizes by recording their activity on the ParticipACTION app.

Red Deer will also be awarding local prizes through the Move Your Mood ParticipACTION grant. Local residents will have a chance to win an Apple Watch, a $150 Sport Chek gift card, or a $100 Save On Foods gift card. To be entered to win, simply share a photo of you or a group getting active on social media and use the hashtag #communitybetterreddeer. If you are not on social media, you can also e-mail a photo to [email protected]. Move Your Mood will draw a winner at the end of June.

The Circle will host a free outdoor fitness event to celebrate our involvement and to assist anyone with tracking questions on June _____ @ ________. Our Fitness Instructor Tammy will host “Try it With Tammy” a light impact, low cardio, senior-friendly, 30-minute fitness class outside in the sunshine. To register for this free event connect with us at the Golden CIrcle at 403-343-6074.
